Both are presumed to be First Editions, as no later printings are noted. Expect an increase in the shipping price for this large and heavy set of books.
Selected Writings of Gertrude Stein Stein, Gertrude [Edited with an Introduction by Carl Van Vechten] [Very Good] [Hardcover]
70.18 CAD
The bindings are tight and square. Text is clean; even age-toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. The dust jacket is price-clipped and evenly age-toned; light edge wear with tiny loss on the lower spine. 8.5 inches tall; xv, 622 pages. The Selected Writings of Gertrude Stein is a curated collection that offers a window into the mind of one of the most innovative and provocative writers of the early 20th century. Stein, often considered one of the central figures in the modernist movement, challenged conventional literary forms and structures, pushing the boundaries of language and narrative. This collection serves as both an introduction to her groundbreaking work and a comprehensive overview of her literary achievements. Stein’s writing is characterized by her experimental approach to language, a style that can be disorienting yet profoundly original. Her use of repetition, fragmented syntax, and unconventional narrative techniques subvert traditional storytelling, making her work both a challenge and a delight for readers. Her iconic works, such as Tender Buttons and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, exemplify her radical approach to prose. Tender Buttons, with its disjointed, almost surrealist descriptions of everyday objects, has come to symbolize the avant-garde spirit of the time. Through this compilation, readers are invited to engage with one of the most important and challenging figures of modernist literature, whose work continues to provoke, inspire, and influence generations of writers and artists. Subjects: Modernism, Feminism, Avant-Garde, Literary Innovation, Experimental Prose, Modernist Literature, Experimental Literature.
