Distillery Information Hardy Cognac located in the Crouin quarter of Dognac, France is a historic producer of Cognac brandy. It was founded in 1863 by British gentleman Anthony Hardy with the company remaining within the family to this day. Anthony Hardy was a wine and spirits merchant who reportedly fell in love with Charentes wines and the surrounding region. So much so that after founding La Maison Hardy he officially changed his name to Antoine. From 1872, the phylloxera louse had a devasting effect on the vineyards of Cognac destroying a majority of the vines until the end of the 19th Century. Thankfully, 1869, 1871, 1874 and 1875 harvest were particularly abundant and the company survived. Today, Hardy Cognac is run by two women of the fifth generation of the family, Bénédicte and Sophie Hardy. The Legend 1863 Cognac is the flagship of the portfolio, produced in commemoration of the Hardy family.

Producer Information Le Clos des Fées is a wine estate in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It was founded by Hervé Bizeul in 1997 and specializes in the classic wines of this region, namely Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and Côtes Catalanes. Bizeul, then a sommelier and wine journalist, established the estate with just a few plots of vines and a converted garage for a winery. The first vintage was produced using extremely basic winemaking equipment, including four small tiny resin tanks and cheese-cloths. Over the years Le Clos des Fées has evolved to comprise seven vineyard sites in Vingrau, Tautavel, Maury, Calce, Lesquerde, Opoul and Espira de l'Agly. These vineyards are planted on a diverse range of soil types that vary from limestone to clay to granite, some with pebbles reminiscent of those found in Châteaneuf-du-Pape. These soils, when combined with the wide range of vineyard exposures, provide the ideal growing conditions for Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Franc and even Tempranillo. The wines produced by Le Clos des Fées are equally as varied as the terroirs they are sourced from. The iconic Les Sorcières is a blend of 50 percent Syrah, 30 percent Grenache and 20 percent Carignan from vines aged between 40-80 years old. In 1926, the cooperative winegrowers of Collioure bought this imposing building and decided to make wine and raise their production in these walls steeped in history.The vineyard is located at the eastern end of the Pyrenees, where the mountains meet the Mediterranean… Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls and Cerbère are the 4 villages that make up this exceptional vineyard, with its rugged terrain and where the winegrowers exercise their passion. The local geography (steep slopes between sea and mountains, shale soil, terraced architecture) makes mechanization impossible. In the Dominicans, the average surface area of vineyard plots is 50 Ares.
